Saturday 5 June - Visit to Saffron Walden Fire Station
11.00am at the Fire Station in George Street
A presentation by the Station Officer, Paul Curtis, on the workings of the fire station and the wider community of Essex fire rescue service will be followed by an inspection of the fire appliances and the equipment carried locally. There is a vast array of technical equipment which is kept in readiness for many different types of emergencies for use within the community and beyond. Due to limited space, numbers will have to be restricted to a maximum of 15 visitors so please register beforehand with Peter Riding on 01799 502355 or email peter@riding.co.uk

Thursday 17 June - Visit to Saffron Walden Sewage Treatment Works
7.30pm start - off New Pond Lane, Saffron Walden (parking in Swan Meadow)
Have you ever wondered what happens to all the waste that goes down the Saffron Walden sewers? During this guided visit, the manager will explain the process, including the problems faced and the strange objects flushed down the sewers. Monday 19 July - Visit to Bartlow Hills Burial Mounds
7.00pm - meet at the Common Car Park to share cars
Celebrate National Archaeology week with a guided visit to Bartlow Hills, which include the highest burial mound in Britain. The visit will be led by Cambridgeshire County Council's Archaeology manager, Quinton Carroll, and will start at 7.30pm from Bartlow churchyard. As parking space in Bartlow is very limited, and we want our events to be accessible to those without transport, please meet at 7.00pm in the Common car park to arrange lifts and share cars.

Sunday 8 August - Villages Treasure Hunt
2.30pm - meet at the Common Car Park to share cars & receive map, clues etc
Explore the villages around Saffron Walden and test your knowledge of the local area with this fun treasure hunt within a 10 mile radius of Saffron Walden. After the treasure hunt, if the weather is fine, join us for a picnic in Bridge End Gardens (bring your own provisions). It is expected that the Treasure Hunt itself will take about 2 hours, depending on the ease with which you unravel the clues! Children and friends are welcome. 7.45pm to 10.30pm - Saffron Walden Market Place
